Cats And Dogs Skin Problems

I have 2 rescued dogs with skin problems.  I also have 3 cats with skin problems.  I believe that the hair loss and flaky skin and itching is because of allergies and also fleas.  I have to bathe my dogs and cats with Adams Flea and Tick shampoo and spray the house and barn to get rid of the fleas.  It seems never ending.  When you have as many dogs and cats as we do, it is difficult to manage these problems.  Still when you love your pets, you want them to be well and happy.

Dogs and cats need different kinds of shampoo and products.  Some are not safe for cats and visa versa for dogs.  Adams has shampoo for cats and shampoo for dogs.  To be safe, always make sure it says “cats” for cats, “dogs” for dogs.

For my cats, I give them the little “capstar” pill, usually 1/2 pill per cat.  This kills the adult fleas.  Mash it up and mix it into some canned food if you cannot get the cat to let you put the pill in its mouth.  Still you need to also put cortisone cream and tribiotic cream on sores to help heal scratched places.  Do that everyday.  As a preventative, you can also spray a little Hartz flea spray on a gentle brush and brush your cat or get a little kleenex and rub some of the hartz spray down the cats back and under her/his chin.  You don’t want them to lick it.  Just put it in areas they cannot lick.  Don’t spray it over an open wound.  If you don’t see progress, take your cat to the vet.
